Soil Survey Horizons

Soil Survey Horizons - New Opportunity for Reduced Price on Society/Association Group Subscriptions.

A letter was recently sent to the official contact of all Soil Societies/Associations associated with the USCSSA on the need for soil scientists to help support Soil Survey Horizons (SSH). Those organizations who wish to purchase SSH for their members as part of their local membership fee can take advantage of a special 10% group discount. Details are included in the below letter.

Attachment to this letter included:

Hello All,

The United States Consortium of Soil Science Associations needs your help.
Soil Survey Horizons (SSH) is a publication that has existed for nearly 50 years with the goal of distributing field-based soil science information. It provides an outlet to share data, observations, and expressions among the community of pedologists. This has been a popular soil publication designed to keep soil scientists working in all phases of the National Cooperative Soil Survey, Consulting Soil Scientists and others groups current on soil science information from a field operations perspective. The regionally based editorial staff assists in developing ideas with potential authors and editing manuscripts of interest. And unlike many other publications, there are no publication costs to authors.

Soil Survey Horizons is now available to offer as a member benefit of soil associations/societies across the country. Mike Wilson, National Soil Survey Center, is the Editor of Soil Survey Horizons and has worked with Soil Science Society of America to offer a special reduced group-rate subscription to SSH. Those organizations who wish to purchase SSH for their members as part of their local membership fee can take advantage of a special 10% group discount. This offer is available to associations/societies of 15 people or more, and is applicable only when the subscriber list and payment are sent to SSSA headquarters all at once in a lump sum from one source.

We encourage each soil scientist to subscribe to the SSH. The cost of either $19.00 (individually) or $17.10 (as part of a group subscription coordinated by your local group) is a very low price to pay for the one publication specifically targeted to this audience. Support your profession by being an active subscriber to SSH. It’s an opportunity to share and network with your peers.

Please route the information on the new reduced subscription opportunity to decision-making members of your soil association/society as appropriate. See the attached subscription form and two articles (by Stan Buol and Mike Wilson) about the history of SSH. If you choose not to take advantage of the group-discount, please share the information form with your members to encourage them to subscribe individually.

A few states already have a large number of soil scientists supporting SSH!! Join them in a national effort to increase the SSH readership and our ability to more effectively network. If you are not part of group of 15 or more or if your soil society/association does not bill you for SSH, then be proactive and send in your individual subscription for SSH.

Best Regards,

Jim Culver, Advisory Group - USCSSA
